  • Author: Chef Emma
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Tender beef, crisp broccoli, and a rich brown sauce come together in this homemade takeout classic. Ready in just 30 minutes, this saucy beef and broccoli is better than takeout and perfect over rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock
  • 2 tbsp Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce (optional)
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp peanut oil (or vegetable oil)

Instructions

  1. Slice beef and marinate with soy sauce, oil, and cornstarch.
  2. Mix sauce ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Steam broccoli in skillet with a little water, then set aside.
  4. Heat oil, sear beef until browned but still pink inside.
  5. Add garlic and ginger, toss quickly.
  6. Return broccoli, pour in sauce, and stir until thickened.
  7. Serve hot over rice.

Notes

For a spicy kick, add chili oil or sriracha at the end. Swap broccoli with snap peas or red peppers for variety. Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free option.
